Plans have existed to upgrade the Sallins Road between Naas and Sallins for at least two years. The initial plan was to upgrade the road corridor all the way from Poplar Square in Naas out as far as the train station in Sallins with funding provided by the NTA as part of a public transport investment. This would allow better movement for cars, buses and cyclists.
There was also hope the project would address the various junctions along that stretch, namely the notorious Osberstown junction in Sallins (raised it many times before) and Hennessey’s junction at the corner with Monread Avenue. However it has been very difficult to pin down any detailed plans leading to suspicion that the project has slipped well beyond its original dates.
It has also been reported that an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is needed at the De Burgh estate where the road was due to be widened (Bats are amongst the many species in residence apparently). A council official confirmed this week that funding had been allocated for 2014 but that an EIA may be required. I will continue to push for progress here and will keep you posted.
Well done you little genius. That sallins road has been like Mondello Park since I came to Naas. If you can pull that one off, you are DEFINATELY in line for the next Taoiseach. No favouritism, but may I apply for your Secretary???? I am very old, but my typing skills are tip top, due to a certain Nun standing over me, shouting F Back, J Back, F Back, Space.

It is good to see that the environment is being considered. Horay I fully support conservation measures. Maybe if some of ye people walked or cyscled you might not be such a hazzard to non drivers. Also rember the estate you propose to erode should have been a park available to the public before now. Remember this road expansion is the area of deburgs estate might not have been needed if politicians of naas and kildare had of oblidged the initial builders of millenium park to complete the intersection that they were suposed to complete. Instead main developer was allowed to sell the place and skip the country. Also Remember the GAA only got their promised land after a hard fight and now it is too small for its catchment. Forget the road, get the owners of millinium park to complete the works that were suposed to be a condition of the initial developement. and persicute those who sold the people of Naas a pig in a poke re millenium park.
