Sallins & Naas Bike Lockers Installed

James Lawless bike lockersThere is welcome news for commuters as Irish Rail have introduced bike lockers at Sallins & Naas train station. After requests I made last year, the busy commuter station was chosen by Irish Rail for the pilot scheme. The innovative yet simple scheme allows cyclists to cheaply secure their bicycles in lockers during the day. I’ve noted many complaints over the years of bike thefts at the station. This was had discouraged commuters from cycling to work before taking the train.

This trial of bike lockers will offer peace of mind to commuters who prefer the bicycle over the car. It’s also considerably cheaper than using the car park. I frequently meet with Irish Rail to lobby for improvements for commuters and had raised this particular issue with them during meetings late last year. Hopefully if there is strong uptake in the scheme we can see more rolled out over the coming months to cater for demand. With bike lockers at Sallins and Dublin Bikes at Heuston, commuters will now have the option of not having to depend on cars and buses to get to work.

To avail of the scheme, interested commuters should visit the Bike Locker website www.bikelocker.ie. The costs are an initial €50 deposit with an ongoing charge of €1.45 per week.
