I was delighted to host a very useful meeting this week between Sallins groups, including Sallins GAA, Sallins Celtic, Sallins Biodiversity Group & Tidy Towns, Park Action Committee, senior officials from Kildare County Council and Cllr. Carmel Kelly, all up in Leinster House to meet with Minister for Sport, Thomas Byrne TD.

The agenda for the meeting was the advancement of the community park project on 42 acre site beside the canal, and we discussed funding streams, development of playing pitches plus supporting infrastructure, allotments, a perimeter track, connections to the greenway and lots more. The Minister was impressed with our delegation and committed to working with KCC and all involved to ensure this project can reach its full potential.

The next step is a funding application to the large scale sports infrastructure scheme and that will open for applications this Spring. Thanks and well done to all who participated and collectively pulled on the green and white jerseys.
