Local Areas For Broadband Upgrade

My continued lobbying of Eircom to install broadband upgrades is paying off – residents in Caragh are to enjoy faster network speeds from now on, as the next generation ‘e-fibre’ broadband has been fast tracked to their exchange. I have also lobbied successfully for Rathmore and Ballymore Eustace to be added to the list of next phase broadband upgrades.

It was brought to my attention by some residents in the Streams estate, Caragh that due to an anomaly they had continually received a secondary network service from even their near neighbours, due to the signalling setup at the cabinet. Eircom are in the process of rolling out high speed broadband across the area and I asked them if this cabinet could be prioritised. The residents themselves were very well versed in the technical details, so we were able to make a strong argument. I was delighted when Eircom recently confirmed to me that that particular cabinet would be the first in the Caragh area to receive the upgraded service. It was a great result for the residents and for the local network.

Separately I successfully lobbied Eircom to expand the roll out to cover areas Ballymore Eustace and Rathmore. Naas, Sallins, Kill and Johnstown are all being done at present. But when I first saw the list of areas, I noticed Ballymore and Rathmore exchanges were not on the list. I raised this with the roll out management team and I was delighted that they agreed to add them for the next phase of the roll out. The sub-exchanges at Rathmore and Ballymore are now listed for inclusion at the next stage of the project which will then deliver higher speed broadband to those areas too.

Broadband is a basic infrastructural requirement now, almost like electricity was at one time. It is key that the best possible service be made available to the maximum number of people and I thank Eircom for taking on board my representations.

    Credit where it’s due…
James made a significant difference in our ability to get connected to Eircoms Fibre network sooner rather than later. We had lobbied a few local representatives to help us fight our corner and even though James hasn’t a seat at the political table yet he was the only one to make the right noises in the right ears.
    Thanks

    Hi
Would you share your rollout contact at eircom or follow up again to lobby for fibre provision in our shared estates ? Despite eircom announcing that it’s live already in sallins , it isn’t , vodafone have no idea from their info from eircom when it will be.
    Thanks

Hi James, firstly congrats on being elected!

As you may remember we spoke recently at my house/office in Kill, although our exchange is live our cabinet which is the closest (50 metres) to the exchange is not live, but having checked with Eircom the other 2 are??? Also as mentioned we are moving office to Sallins Town Centre, and this I’ve just found out it also not live, even though Eircom say it is live.

This is really backward planning by Eircom and as an owner of a graphics business we require good strong BB, how can we move further in business without proper BB.

As Paul says above we require further answers, as every month they keep moving the live dates, please help!

    Thanks
    Anthony

Any news regarding Millbank Square? There’s no fibre there yet and the ADSL connections are horrible. It’s incredible that the entire right side of Sallins has fibre and the left side doesn’t…
