I was delighted to attend and launch today Irelands First Age Friendly Estate in Castlefen, Sallins.
This is the first of its kind and is a fantastic achievement and I have to commend the Kildare Age Friendly Council lead by Sonya Kavanagh, Chair of the Alliance John Malone, Carmel Cashin, Catherine McGuigan, John McLoughlin, Amro Hamid, the residents, volunteers and to everyone who was involved in contributing to this project coming to fruition.
It is so important to put the older persons at the heart of their communities, and Castlefen ticks all of the boxes for age friendly communities by paying attention to multiple domains such as housing, transport, social inclusion and health and community services.
I am particularly impressed with the added features of the age friendly garden area, outdoor gym equipment and age friendly parking. Very practical but extremely beneficial extra steps that have been taken to really maximize the accessibility for the older community.
