Flooding is an all too familiar problem, and increasingly so as our weather becomes wetter and wilder in recent years. I went out to Ballymore National School just after Christmas to see the latest site for flood problems to manifest. There is a small stream running adjacent to the school, which then runs under the main road and out the far side.
In normal times the stream is harmless, and there was some work done to dredge it a year or two back. However in the more turbulent tempests we experience regularly now, that little stream becomes a deluge that has flooded the entire playground and school yard, as well as virtually blocking off the main Naas road into Ballymore.
Anyway I met with the principal, Mrs. O’Flynn and we surveyed the situation. The culvert under the main road basically appears too narrow to handle storm waters and needs to be widened – something similar to what was done in Sallins at Kerdiffstown previously. I have referred this onto Kildare County Council and this week I received assurances that a site investigation will be planned to occur shortly.
