For years anyone coming to or from Ballymore would have passed the old tree at the ‘brook of donode’ bend and it had become something of a local landmark. The bend itself is very severe and if you didn’t know the road you could find it a difficult turn were you travelling at any speed on the approach. The tree in the middle had been fenced off for some time, but in recent times natural decay had meant the former specimen was withered and starting to rot in the hollow. A number of Ballymore residents had mentioned this to me, and it was raised at a meeting of the Wolfe Tone Fianna Fáil cumann in the village a short while back. Anyway, long story short, I brought its current condition to the attention of the council. They have taken away the tree and I have requested they plant a new sapling in its place. Part of the circle of life I suppose.
NB Stonebrook Pet Farm is just off that junction and well worth a visit, especially in December when Santa is in residence 🙂
