Restoration of town councils required for more community involvement

File 22-07-2015 11 53 40I am calling for the restoration of town councils to better improve the services local authorities provide to towns in Kildare. Following recent constituency boundary changes many areas will see a reduction in the number of local councillors after next year’s local elections.

We know that decisions are best made by those closest to them. That includes local in Government.  Places like Celbridge and Maynooth did not have a town council so it is important  that if we re-establish them, and I hope that we do, it is done in such a way that it is uniform and balanced across the country. Calling for Local Government Reform

Recently my colleague Shane Cassells TD brought a Bill into the Dáil which would allow Town Counicls to make a return. The benefits to the local community is one key incentive to having town councils and their merits considered once again. You can read my full contribution to the debate here.
