Additional Shelter Installed at Sallins Train Station

The long awaited installation of the second rain shelter at Sallins & Naas train station has finally gone ahead. I have campaigned for this since the station upgrade last year. With the numbers using the Dublin platform daily a single shelter was totally inadequate in any inclement weather.

Following repeated requests and recent media coverage Irish Rail contacted me last week to say they would finally put in place a second rain shelter at Sallins railway station. Before station upgrade we had two, but afterwards we were left with one, it didn’t make sense and people were getting wet daily, thankfully they are now remedying this.

Well, much better late than never and I thank Irish Rail for listening to my arguments and taking action.

Progress Update on Sallins Bypass

There is welcome progress on the Sallins bypass and M7 interchange as it has been confirmed that the next stage of the project is about to commence. The project went to public consultation last May and is now advancing to the next stage of detailed design works.

This is a very important project for Sallins village and also for the infrastructure of the wider area. The village will benefit greatly from having through traffic routed around it and it will also allow other projects to proceed which are currently on hold, pending the bypass. The final route was confirmed last May and we now know that it will not go through any of the residential estates as had been considered in the very early drafts.

Sallins Shelter Demanded as Rail Fares Hiked Again

We needed the ramps, but after spending all that money where are the rain shelters?

We needed the ramps, but after spending all that money where are the rain shelters?

Irish Rail have again announced they will be hiking their fares for 2014. This comes on top of the fortune they spent on a station “upgrade” in Sallins that has left the place almost worse than it was to start with.

This week we have another hike in fares from Irish rail and the National Transport Authority. Annual tickets will go up from the 1st November and all other fares increase on 1st December, just before any Christmas shopping. Hard pressed commuters are faced with the 4th consecutive year of fare increases.

New Train Welcomed for Sallins & Naas Station

This week I had discussions with Irish Rail and they agreed with me that they would add an extra morning Dublin-bound service to serve Sallins & Naas train station. As a member of the NASRUG train lobby group, I meet regularly with Irish Rail on behalf of local Rail Commuters, and this was the latest item from their agenda.

There was a new timetable introduced late last year, which was fine in the main but it did open up a few gaps in the schedule. One issue was at morning time between 8am and 9am you had a big gap between trains. There was traditionally always a service in around 8.30am which was perfect for those doing crèche runs etc to still catch a train to make Dublin before 9am.

Craddockstown Road Dangers for Nursing Home and Crèche

Safety concerns on the Craddockstown road have been raised by Fianna Fáil’s Naas Area Representative, James Lawless.

James says he has been approached by numerous people complaining about visibility on the road which is just on the fringe of Naas town and which is used for both the Craddockstown Nursing Home and the Friendly Faces crèche on that road as well as local traffic.

“The road is narrow at the best of times and is very overgrown at present which is causing a serious difficulty for many parents leaving their children to the crèche, many of whom walk out with buggies due to the proximity to the town” said James. “It is also a very popular road for local walkers”.
