Great news today from An Bord Pleanala after they have refused planning for the proposed wind farm development at Emlagh, Co. Meath. The precedent has now been set this morning after An Bord Pleanála rejected permission for a wind farm in Meath. As I have consistently stated over the last 12 months, I am firmly opposed to the unwanted and detrimental Maighne Wind Farm in north west Kildare and I would expect An Bord Pleanála to see sense by repeating their decision here in Kildare North. The reasons for my objection to the Maighne Wind Farm echoes those of residents across north west Kildare, and I think today we can take some positives from the ABP decision. Similar to our concerns here in Kildare North, the planning body raised very similar health and safety issues as part of their reasons to refuse the proposed development in Co. Meath.

General Election Campaign Underway in Kildare North

The campaign to elect the next Dáil is now officially underway. Polling takes place on Friday 26th February 2016. I am running to win a seat in Kildare North and I am asking voters in the constituency to give me their number 1 vote. I’ve met many voters over the past few months and look forward to meeting as many of you as possible over the remainder of this campaign. Over the past 5 years, Kildare North hasn’t received the level of representation it deserves. We’re suffering from the lowest levels of garda coverage in the country, lacking childcare support behind other counties, all capital investment in the constituency has effectively stopped, and we’ve no strong voices representing us in Dáil Éireann. By voting for me on 26th February I will ensure that Kildare North is no longer represented by silent Government backbenchers. If you agree, please vote James Lawless no. 1 on polling day.
Public Meeting on Crime in Kilteel

I chaired a really interesting and interactive meeting on Crime Prevention in Kilteel Hall on 28th January 2016. Guest speakers Jim Brady and Colin Connolly spoke about their personal experiences with burglary and crime. Jim is an ex-member of Defence Forces and had some great advice on avoiding burglary. Colin is crime prevention officer with the IFA and spoke about his Theft Stop initiative and gave some interesting advice on how to ‘mark’ your property. Rural crime has never been as great a concern as is now, and it is an issue which needs to be addressed and discussed frequently especially with our all time low Garda numbers here in Kildare.
Cllr Lawless Outlines FF Plan to Tackle Rural Crime in Kildare
I’ve always been outspoken on the serious issue of crime across Kildare North and how it has affected our communities and have looked at ways to stem that. On a national level as part of our policy proposals for the upcoming General Election, Fianna Fáil is prepared to take immediate and bold action to tackle the growing crime wave hitting rural Ireland. The party will put in place a seven point plan which will seek to address the crime epidemic in rural Ireland and ensure communities can live in security and without fear. As we’re all too well aware, rural Kildare has suffered considerably in this current crime wave.
