Breakdown of Sallins Bypass and M7 Upgrade Costs

M7 Upgrade Sallins BypassI have obtained a breakdown on the cost of the three delayed roads projects at the recent Naas Municipal District meeting. As I’ve stated on countless occasions over the years, the Sallins bypass is vital for Sallins and taking the gridlock out of the village. The M7 widening is equally important to prevent the rat run that was worsening in Kill and Johnstown since Newlands Cross opened and that the Osberstown Interchange at Kerry Foods was vital to hook it all together.

I have been consistently keeping the pressure on for these projects to progress and Minister Donohue stated on Wednesday morning that he acknowledged the importance of these projects for the area and indeed region. I have now obtained figures showing that the estimated cost of Osberstown Interchange is approximately €16 million and of Sallins By Pass is approximately €39 million. The highest project in terms of cost is the M7 widening with a price tag of €55 million. The government need to keep their promise to deliver on these projects. These projects are not just important for the locality, but they have greater importance for the wider Leinster region and the busy Dublin-Cork motorway route.

FF Bill on Relief for Apartment Management Fees Welcome

Local Property Tax kildareThe Fianna Fáil party has published a Bill to provide property tax relief for homeowners who are paying management fees. There are thousands of homeowners living in managed estates across Kildare, and indeed Ireland, who are paying on the double for many services. This is an issue I raised many months ago in a submission to the Revenue Commissioners during a recent consultation on Local Property Tax.

The Fianna Fáil Bill provides a discount on property tax worth a third of the management fee, up to a maximum of €300 a year. Thousands of people living in apartments or managed estates are paying a fortune in management fees every year. This pays for some of the services that the council would otherwise provide, including keeping the grounds, maintaining the roads and paths, maintaining public lighting and managing drainage.

Yellow Boxes Now At Osberstown Junction

Yellow Boxes at Osberstown Junction

Yellow Boxes at Osberstown Junction

I was pleased to see yellow boxes installed on both sides of the road at the Osberstown Junction after my motion was passed at the council to have these yellow boxes installed. This is not a perfect solution but I hope it manages to ease the daily traffic congestion at that junction.

I will continue to work on the long term solution to this junction which I know cause daily traffic problems for commuters.

Recent Garda Figures for Kildare North Appalling

Speaking in Kill in 2013 with FF justice spokesman Niall Collins TD on recent garda station closures.

Speaking in Kill in 2013 with FF spokesman on justice Niall Collins TD on recent garda station closures.

Recent figures released show a significant decrease in Garda numbers deployed in Kildare. The government have failed in their lack of forward planning and regard to the public safety of Kildare residents. This news comes on top of a spate of closures of Garda stations by the government which I have warned against over the last number of years. I have been highlighting crime and security concerns for some time now.

It is not good enough that Kildare has to suffer further decreases to Gardaí numbers in our county. The cumulative cuts imposed by the current government over the previous four years have left Kildare’s Garda force severely depleted. We are now drastically below the national average in regards to Gardaí to population ratio. In fact we have the lowest number of Gardaí per capita in the country. Despite three government T.D.’s North Kildare continues to receive the worst of the cuts to services imposed by Fine Gael and Labour.

Waterways Launches New Recycling Facilities

James Lawless at The WaterwaysIt was great to be at the launch of the new recycling facility in The Waterways, Sallins last Sunday, April 20th. Everyone involved in the Waterways development must be commended for their continued hard work and community effort which has led to this recycling facility being set up for both residents and business alike.
