Kilcullen Road Works Update

The “official” Kilcullen Rd detour map.

Following various conversations with residents and other concerned parties over last few days I discussed these proposals with council officials again and this is the current situation as regards the Kilcullen Road works and detour:

  • The main news is that local traffic can use the Rathasker road as an inner relief road now; accordingly that will now become a one way circuit also, making a full circuit via Rathasker road and back out by Kilcullen road possible. This aspect is new and came out of my discussion with council today.
  • The overall works could run for up to a year but the one-way system is temporary and will not run all that time.
  • Two way flow will be restored as soon as feasible; December is the very worst case, it could and should be much sooner.
  • Two way flow will be restored on an incremental basis, as soon as feasible; in other words it may be possible to bring two way flow in as far as Esmondale first, then a few weeks later two way as far as Broadfield and so on.
  • The stretch of affected road from Kilashee hotel to Esmondale will be one way at the outset; the rest of the system will remain two way all through. E.g. a car could drive from Kilcullen to Kilashee hotel, then turn around and drive back.
  • There is an awareness of state exams over the next few weeks and discretion will be applied in these cases.

Thank You

I am overwhelmed by the support I received in last Friday’s local elections. I would like to say a huge thank you to all the many people involved in the campaign and to everyone who supported me at the polls. With the highest vote in the county it is quite a mandate and I am humbled to have received it. It is a great honour to now formally serve the Naas area and I look forward to getting stuck into the job. Please do not hesitate to contact me on any issue and I look forward to a busy term of office ahead. Thank you.

Asking You For Your Vote

Vote no1 James LawlessFriday May 23rd is polling day and I would respectfully ask for your no. 1 vote. If you have been following my updates on this site, you will know that I have worked very hard as a community activist on a wide range of issues for many years now. However there is a limit to what can be achieved without a seat at the table. If I can secure election to Kildare County Council I will have a far greater influence and greater direction over the course of events locally.

Tendering For Bus Routes Must Not Cut Off Communities

James Lawless 2014There are valid concerns over the Government’s proposals to tender operation of bus routes in Kildare. It was announced that 10% of routes servicing Naas and other towns and villages in the county will be put out to tender in November this year.

Many of these routes service rural communities that have no alternative public transport options. We should ensure these communities are not cut off. The Government must give a commitment to rural communities that bus services will be retained after the tender process. There is simply no other means of travel for many people living in towns and villages around Kildare.

Old age pensioners and students are most at risk since many don’t own cars. The bus network through each town and village must be retained when the routes are put out to tender.

Privatisation will bring the benefits of competition to passengers and commuters, however, we must be careful that villages and rural communities aren’t cut off from their only public transport links.

I’ve worked for years with NASRUG securing concessions from Irish Rail for commuters at Sallins & Naas train station. If elected to Kildare County Council I will continue my commitment to public transport users and will lobby for improved public transport links around the county.
