@ Niall true and in that case it was largely the same bunch of players carried over. Then as now it is attitude and motivation that matters. Liam Griffin inherited a team that was in disarray and would celebrate a knockout like a victory. He taught them a pride in their jersey and that they could be winners.

@Des, @Conor I think Kildare have a great chance tomorrow. Of course Tyrone are a strong team but Kildare have come on hugely this year. They've a lot of physicality drilled into them now and McGeeney won't be afraid of those Nordies. The Dubs are a very on form team at the moment and they had to raise their game significantly to beat Kildare. It was a lot closer than expected. Had Kildare not had a scoring drought early in the second half they could have stormed through. I heard odds last night of Kildare @ 22-1 to go all the way this Summer. I just might visit Bamburys later.
PS Can't make it to Croke Park but plan on watching in the railway tomorrow if anyone interested..

Any thoughts on the football before 4pm Sunday?

I think that if Kildare try to make Tyrone to play the game from 35 yards, Kildare will win. If Tyrone go for the goals, they will win. Kildare are soft on the full-back line.

My maternal grandfather hurled for Offaly, James, and I played a fair bit in primary school in Edenderry- though I consider myself a Kildare man as I was reared on the other side of the Boyne bridge.
I was then sent to a rugby school and began a love affair with the oval ball.
A senior member of Round Towers CLG informed me that Hurleys were mainly useful in Kildare for keeping down the thistles!
The footballers have great resolve this year but Tyrone will test the strength of the Liathroidi !

James, loathe as I am to disagree with a member of the first adult hurling team fielded by Sallins GAA in over twenty years…. I need to take issue with your view that relegation would be the best thing to happen to Wexford hurling. I might remind you that the ‘96 hurlers and management that you eulogise above were beaten in 1995 by Meath in the National League and by Offaly in the first round of the championship and would have been ripe for relegation had such a system existed then....

It's a fair point. All the shenanigans played out again this year on Leeside. Antrim might not be cutting it on the field at the moment but those boys have heart. I was in Cushendun before and there are young fellas pucking a ball across patches of grass yards away from loyalist estates. Those guys deserve a break.
